Las Gaoneras, the Restaurant
Las Gaoneras is a franchise restaurant found throughout Mexico. They specialize in Mexican steaks, the speciality
of which is called the "Gaoneras". This is the best steak on their menu, but it is pounded flat according to the
Mexican custom. The restaurant is a true carnivore's delight - even the side of guacamole has fried pork skins stuck
in it for scooping purposes. The food is tasty, and the decor is an over-the-top bullfighting theme with bull heads
hanging on the walls and bullfighting pictures, paintings, and sculptures. The only thing missing is waiters dressed
as matadors. It is also a bar at night (see below).
Location: The Costera in Costa Azul next to the disco Oblue, a few blocks south of the Hard Rock Cafe
Menu Items: A variety of steak (Gaoneras and Bistik), sausage, soup, chicken, salad. Basically, meat.

Las Gaoneras, the Bar
On Friday and Saturday starting at 11:00 pm (only during the holiday seasons), the restaurant turns into a bar with
pretty cool live rock & roll music. The bands play covers, but it's the closest thing to Austin, Texas that I have found.
Beers are only US$2 (or five for US$8). No cover.
